The following is a summary of some of the key features available in the 2024 release.

OpenTunnel Designer (OTD) 2024.00 contains the enhancements and error corrections mentioned in the following paragraphs.

I. Enhancements
1. Modeling - TBM - Universal Tapered Ring (TBM-UTR)
  • Model Universal Tapered Ring TBM tunnels;
  • Specify the first ring position;
  • Create the deviated alignment.
2. Modeling - Added option to specify a name and a starting number for the tunnel sections or TBM rings.
3. Modeling - Construction Scheduler - Added option to define construction stages. The information attached to the solids can be.
  • Visualized when user selects the element;
  • Send to PLAXIS 2D/3D to create construction stages.
4. Modeling - Hatch pattern - Feature definitions support hatch patterns defined in element templates.
5. Modeling - Perforators - Added support for placing singularities and auxiliary's cells defined as perforators.
6. Modeling - Cell variations - Added support to modify each instance of a placed cell (singularity or auxiliary) through predefined variations or predefined constrain variables.
7. Modeling - OpenGround Extension - Added support for OpenGround Extension.
Limitation: Currently, the soil meshes created by the OpenGround Extension are not cut by the tunnels created by OTD.
8. Reports - TBM-UTR - Added option to generate:
  • Ring Rotation Matrix report with allowed and not allowed ring positions;
  • Ring Position List report that lists the order and position of the placed rings and their corresponding 2 axes deviations from the theoretical alignment.
9. Reports - Construction Scheduler - Added option to generate a report for the defined construction stages.
10. PLAXIS Interoperability - Dummy soils - If the model does not contain soil information, OTD automatically creates the geometry for dummy soils in PLAXIS 2D/3D necessary to intersect solids when creating the constructions stages.
11. PLAXIS Interoperability - Unsupported character - When using unsupported characters in the name of the files, OTD will try to remove those characters for a successful transfer to PLAXIS.
12. PLAXIS Interoperability - Reinforcement groups - When defining multiple groups of reinforcement under the same category, the user can now select what groups will be sent to PLAXIS.
13. PLAXIS Interoperability - Rock bolts behavior - For each group of rock bolts the user can select the intended behavior in PLAXIS model i.e. rock bolts, piles or grout body.
Limitation: The user will need to double check the nodes connection point in PLAXIS, for each group.
14. Item types - Multiple improvements:
  • Added item types for TBM UTR
  • Added item types for Construction Stages
  • Added item types for each reinforcement type
  • Added item types for auxiliaries
15. GUI - Project Explorer - Added categories for each reinforcement type.
16. GUI - Project Explorer - Improved handling.
17 Added a new workspace/workset for imperial international foot.
II. Error corrections
- PLAXIS transfer - Improved geometry creation to enhance the mesh calculations.
