Three central questions concerning Big Data are how to classify Big Data, what are the best methods for managing Big Data, and how to accurately analyze Big Data. Although various methods exist to answer these questions, no single or globally accepted methodology is recognized to perform satisfactorily on all data and can be accepted since Big Data Analytics tools have to deal with the large variety and large scale of data sets. For example, some of the use cases of Big Data Analytics tools include real-time intelligence, data discovery, and business reporting. These all present a different challenge.

This edited volume, titled Big Data Analytics: Tools and Technology for Effective Planning, deliberates upon these various aspects of Big Data Analytics for effective planning. We start with Big Data challenges and a reference model, and then dwell into data mining, algorithms, and storage methods. This is followed by various technical facets of Big Data analytics and some application areas.
