Lord Shiva is the embodiment of mystery. His true nature cannot be objectively known as it does not dwell in the domain of mind, speech, words or thought constructs. He stands above all dualities. Vedas are the only expression of Shiva in Mantra form. Shiva is the spiritual force that turns things around, draws them within and takes them back to the source. Kashmir Shaivism is a monastic school but the monastic thought of Kashmir Shaivism does not recognize anything that is unreal or illusion. The existence is a reflection of Shiva on himself. As such there cannot be anything unreal as Shiva is eternal reality. The spiritual path focusses on Ishvara Pratyabhijna, establishing our limited soul in the eternal Shiva Consciousness. For that purposes it proposes three Upayas or means. Kashmir Shaivism is an integration of philosophy, Tantra and Yoga. These features of Kashmir Shaivism make it distinct from other Shaivite Schools.
