Smith hasonló című regénye alapján készült The Secret Circle egy fiktív kisvárosban, a Washington állambéli Chance Harborban játszódik, főszereplője pedig Cassie, a fiatal kaliforniai lány, akinek élete gyökeresen megváltozik, amikor megtudja, hogy felmenői boszorkányok voltak. Miután a lány elveszíti édesanyját – amiről ő úgy tudja, hogy csak baleset volt, de a háttérben sötét titkok rejlenek – nagyanyjához költözik, ahol új iskolába kerül, új barátokat szerez, közben pedig a család titkai mellett fény derül, hogy a városban nem csak ő az egyedüli boszorkány, és nem csak jók léteznek ezen az oldalon.
