Idézet:In 1964 Madrid was the site of a first international Convention on Arabic and Islamic Studies (Safran 1998, 196, n. 24), and of a first international Symposium on Sephardic[Jewish] Studies. The latter conference was held under the auspices of the Arias Montano Institute,1 whose mission within the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas has been to promote scholarly research and inform the public on various aspects of Spain's Jewish past and diaspora. In 1964 the contemporary Spanish Jewish diaspora, or what one historian at the conference termed in Hebrew, sefarad hagedola, "Greater Sepharad," (Benardete 1970, 150), came to Madrid in a very nuanced "return" to a strangely "recognizable" ancient/contemporary home.
