The Proteus 9 release represents a major platform change for the software suite. It is a new, native 64-bit, platform independent architecture with full support for international character sets. Core simulation improvements include both an upgraded virtual instruments suite and live graph tracing. Support for microPython in Proteus is now broadened to include both Visual Designer and IoT builder products. Proteus PCB design has dramatic performance improvements throughout the package and particularly with live zone regeneration. We've also introduced support for managed libraries with a bridge to external version control repositories
What's new in Proteus 9.0
Framework
Proteus 9 is designed from the ground up as a modern, 64-bit application supporting all international character sets. It has been built on a platform independent framework, enabling the development of Linux or Mac versions of Proteus in the future. It comes with support for themes, re-designed dialogues and object selectors as well as a dedicated single user install mode to make it easy for one person to work across multiple machines.
PCB Design
With PCB Design we've built on the new 64-bit architecture to deliver performance improvements across the board. Particular focus has been given to live zone regeneration times which are now orders of magnitude faster than in Proteus 8. Library part management is another area we've given a lot of attention. A brand new managed libraries workflow enables use of version controlled library parts and provides auditing tools to check that the latest versions of a part is in use in a project.
Proteus VSM
Our support for microPython in Proteus VSM is being extended to both our Visual Designer and IoT Builder products. Additional target boards are also being considered. We plan to implement support for FT232 chip in our microPython products to allow interfacing of a microPython simulation to the real world via serial communication protocols such as I2C or SPI.
Simulation
Interactive simulation now benefits from a new system scope. This does not require a placed component but can be launched at any time, with probes being placed or moved live during a simulation run. The system scope and other instruments can be docked at the bottom of the window, saving screen space and allowing their use inside VSM Studio as well. Meanwhile, graph based simulation has been improved to show live tracing on the schematic preview as the simulation progresses.
