Google Satellite Maps Downloader is a desktop tool for downloading satellite map tiles from Google Maps and saving them on a local drive. The collected images can be viewed individually with Map Viewer or combined into a larger map in several supported image formats.
The software is also intended for workflows that use offline map data in geographic information systems and mobile mapping applications. In addition to image output, it can create an SQLite database for use with compatible applications listed by the publisher.
Software Overview
Google Satellite Maps Downloader retrieves small satellite-image tiles and stores them locally. Users can inspect the downloaded imagery with Map Viewer or assemble the tiles into a larger map file. Supported output formats listed in the source include BMP, JPG, TIF, PNG, ECW, SGI, IMG, and KMZ.
The resulting offline maps can be used with GIS software such as Global Mapper, QGIS, and TatukGIS. The exported SQLite database is also described as compatible with applications including RMaps, Locus Map, OruxMaps, and MapBox.
