Recorded at Anguilla Music Academy with top regional musicians, this pack is based on Bouyon soca, a fusion of soca music with Bouyon rhythms from 1990s Dominica. Known as "jump up music" by the French Antilleans due to its carnival-style sound, Bouyon soca combines Caribbean genres like jing ping, zouk, bele, soca, and calypso. It is characterized by a fast tempo and hard-hitting percussion.
Originating in the 1980s, Bouyon (meaning "broth" in Dominican Creole French) has evolved to include aggressive tempos and influences from dancehall, hip hop, pop, and R&B. By the late 1990s, Bouyon incorporated more electronic instrumentation. Today, it is primarily an electronic genre, relying heavily on drum machines and samplers, with fast-paced one-shots and loops full of kinetic energy and dynamic rhythms.
