Ink Audio Ink Steel KONTAKT is a virtual pedal steel instrument created with modern pedal steel playing in mind. Its sound is suited to singer/songwriter productions, Americana, ambient music, and spacious styles such as the "zero-gravity country music" associated with Brian Eno.
The instrument combines chord and single-note sets with pitch-bend control, allowing players to perform conventional chord progressions, individual melodic lines, double stops, and more unusual pitch movements. Built-in effects provide additional ways to shape the instrument, while the sounds can also be processed through external plugins or a pedalboard.
Software Overview
Ink Steel provides eight chord sets and four single-note sets, selectable from the instrument interface or through keyboard switches. Within the chord sets, the pitch bend follows the major scale, giving the performer scale-based control over chord movement.
The chord layouts use white keys for diatonic chords, while black keys provide additional common chord variations including 1variation, 2, 4min, #5dim, and b7. Single-note sets use the white keys for the major scale, with black keys providing duplicate scale notes that do not respond to pitch bend.
The instrument also allows chord sets and single notes to be transposed directly through the arrow controls in its user interface.
